Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr.
Born on October 17, 1984 in Korle Gonno, Accra, Ghana, Shatta Wale began his musical journey as "Bandana" — releasing "Moko Hoo" in 2004 and earning his first Ghana Music Awards nomination. After years of grinding, a watershed moment at the 2013 VGMAs catapulted him back into the spotlight, and his 2013 anthem "Dancehall King" became a national phenomenon — winning him Artist of the Year at the 2014 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
What followed was a decade of dominance: multiple albums, record-setting award hauls, and a global breakthrough when Beyoncé selected him for "Already" on The Lion King: The Gift (2019) — a collaboration that introduced the King to worldwide audiences. In 2024, Vybz Kartel personally invited him to perform at his Freedom Street Concert in Jamaica — the ultimate dancehall co-sign. He is CEO of Shatta Movement Records and the undisputed leader of the Shatta Movement (SM) — Ghana's largest and most passionate artist fanbase.
